Bite the Big Apple!

Updated: Jan 2

We stopped for a bite of the Big Apple on our way to the Holy Land!

Sheraton Hotel & Ferry

We stayed at the Sheraton, Weehawken, NJ, across the Hudson and used the ferry to 39th or the NJ bus to Port Authority at 42nd & 8th in Manhattan depending on our agenda. The ferry bus, no additional cost, drops off at or close to your destination. To return check the app for bus location and make your way to the nearest stop. The ferry across the street from our hotel and the NJ transit within a block.

Macy's Department Store, Herald Square & Empire State Building

After a late start the one morning we had lunch at Ben's Deli and on to Macy's, 34th Street. After overstaying our welcome we discreetly departed and previewed the window displays. We embraced Herald Square, glimpsed the nearby Empire State Building and made our way to Times Square where the New Year's ball drops.

Times Square & Off Broadway Show

We chilled, yes it was more than chilly in early December! From there we walked to 46th Street to see Sistas - The Musical at St.Luke's Theatre. We did the ferry bus' scenic route back to the pier, crossed the river and dined at Ruth Chris.

Broadway, Radio City Music Hall & Rockefeller Center

After we were dropped off by the ferry bus we strolled Broadway and on to Radio City Music Hall for the Christmas Show matinee. The show was awesome and it showcased the birth of Jesus Christ, inclusive of live animals. After the show we walked to Rockefeller Center to see the Christmas tree and watched the ice skaters. Thereafter were had roasted chestnuts, did some shopping and headed to Restaurant Row for dinner then to our hotel via the NJ transit bus.

Subway to 135th, Mother AME Zion Church & Jazz Vespers

Upon arrival at the Port Authority via the NJ transit bus we purchased our subway fares and made it to the platform for the No. 2(?) for Harlem. We disembarked at 135th and walked to 137th, hung left and made our way to Mother AME Zion Church for the Jazz Vespers concert. After the concert we met the pastor who graciously showed us Bishop James Varick's crypt, the first ordained Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, the Freedom Church -- the membership church of Harriet Tubman, and the worship home for Frederick Douglass and Sojourner Truth. Back to the subway to Port Authority and NJ transit bus to our hotel.

Depart for Israel

After our very short visit we departed from the Newark airport on an overnight fight to the Holy Land.
